Alan Armstrong

Alan Armstrong was the Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Williams Companies, a leading provider of energy infrastructure in North America. Appointed to the role in July 2025, Armstrong transitioned from his long-standing position as president and CEO, a role he held since 2011.


Prior to being named CEO of Williams, Armstrong led the company’s North American midstream and olefins businesses through a period of growth and expansion as Senior Vice President –Midstream. He also served in a number of operational and commercial roles in various business units at Williams. Armstrong began his career at Williams nearly four decades ago as an engineer and steadily rose through the ranks, demonstrating a deep commitment to operational excellence,

strategic growth and environmental stewardship. Armstrong earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Oklahoma.

Armstrong is the former Chair of the National Petroleum Council and a founding member of Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future.


On March 24, 2026, Governor Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma appointed Alan Armstrong to the U.S. Senate to fill a vacancy left by Markwayne Mullin’s appointment as Secretary of Homeland Security. Armstrong was sworn in by Senate President pro tempore Chuck Grassley in the Old Senate Chamber.
